DIMAPUR— After the introduction of the Improvised Traffic Control Systems (ITCS), Dimapur traffic personnel are having a hard time trying to instruct drivers and vehicle owners to follow traffic signal.
The ITCS was recently installed at Nagarjan Police Point and Holy Cross Police Point, two of the busiest junctions in Dimapur.
Dimapur Traffic Zone 1 officer in-charge told Eastern Mirror that since the introduction of ITCS on July 25, traffic personnel are undergoing a strenuous time as many drivers and vehicle owners are not following the traffic light.
“We cannot ascertain if they are genuinely not able to follow the traffic signals as the system is new or deliberately breaking the rules, which is the usual habit of drivers and road users,” he said.

The OC said that awareness on the ITCS had been conveyed and publicised frequently for understanding of the public, but it may take time for the people to follow the signal, going by the trend and response of the drivers and citizens in general.
He sought cooperation from the public for successful implementation of the ITCS, while expressing hope that the system will ease traffic flow in the busy junctions.
Earlier, Dimapur Police had informed that the traffic rules and regulations are devised to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles on the road, not only meant for drivers but also for all road users.
“The thorough knowledge of traffic rules and regulations, traffic signs and markings are very essential for the drivers and road users and can greatly reduce the number of accidents and establish a healthy and organised traffic system in our city,” Dimapur Police stated.
