EMPLOYEES of the municipal body in Dimapur on Thursday announced that they have decided to call off their proposed indefinite strike, which was scheduled to start off from August 1, following a meeting with officials from the department of Urban Development on Wednesday.
The staffers, under the banner of Dimapur Municipal Council Employees Association (DMCEA), were reportedly assured by the officials from Urban Development that their grievances would be looked into.
According to DMCEA officials, the department officials were intimated of matters related to “allotment of DMC Tolls Collection works being made by the UDD to 38 Lessee at lowest rate and financial constraint faced by the DMC.” This has been the bone of contention between the two parties.
Other matters, including “borrowing of Rs 1.15 crore from the New Market Building Construction Fund for disbursement of staff salary during the blanket ban imposed by the government for about six months” and the DMC’s limited source of income was discussed at the meeting, according DMCEA officials.
A request to the government to grant an amount of Rs 1.15 crore to recover the loan taken from the DMC Construction Fund was made at the meeting.
It was informed that the department officials assured that in future allotment works of DMC tolls collection would be made with an enhancement/increase of installment with due consultation with DMC keeping in mind increase of revenue generation for smooth functioning of DMC in accordance with the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001.
The department was also requested to grant the DMC “some amount” quarterly to help them undertake “developmental activities” under their jurisdiction.
The meeting was attended by OSD of UDD Sanjay Pandey, PRO to MAC of UDD Keny Metha, president of DMCEA B Bhadra, secretary of DMCEA T Revo Anar and administrator of DMC K Tarep Imchen.
