Dimapur, Nov. 11 (EMN): The unruly streets of Dimapur have caught the attention of urban council leaders who have asked drivers and motorists to start respecting the rules of using roads. The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) and the GB Union of Dimapur issued a note to the media on Sunday decrying what they called ‘Khushi khushi’ (An onomatopoeic Nagamese phrase meaning doing what one wishes) drivers. The community organisations have sought stringent punishment for ‘parking defaulters’ too. ‘The DUCCF and GB Union (Sadar) Dimapur appreciates the deputy commissioner of police (DCP) and all rank and file of traffic police of Dimapur for streamlining the allotted vehicles parking zones in the city,’ the note read. ‘At the same time supports the stringent measures undertaken against the parking defaulters. With growing number of vehicles it is imperative that traffic rules be followed by all. Our “khusi khusi” attitude will not take us forward.’ The two organisations reminded that it was high time for the Naga people to learn about and respect the Rule of Law. ‘Therefore, the two organizations appeal to all drivers n riders to follow the traffic rules and parking instructions diligently,’ the note stated. The DUCCF and the GB Union has appealed to the DCP of Traffic to ‘earmark all the remaining stretches of roads outside the main city center as designated parking zones.’ With the onset of festive season, the note explained, it will be convenient for all ‘if every roads are earmarked and parking done accordingly.’ The organisations have appreciated the administrator of the Dimapur Municipal Council for ‘painting and beautifying the parking zones,’ too.
