DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) has condemned WJ Longkumer's Facebook post in which he issued a life threat and made derogatory remarks about Dr. Rosemary Dzüvichü, a professor, social activist, and advisor to the Naga Mother's Association.
In a condemnation note, DAYO stated that such a threat is intolerable in a civilised society. It called upon the law-enforcing authorities to thoroughly investigate the intent behind the threat and ensure that the law takes its full course without yielding to any pressures.
The organisation reiterated that any anti-social elements do not carry the identity of any tribe or community. Wrongdoers, it stated, should be isolated, and no society should shield them from accountability and punishment.
It further cautioned Ao youth and Naga youth to be responsible and judicious in the usage of social media given its social sensitivity and the existence of stringent cyber laws.
DAYO extended solidarity and support to Dr. Dzüvichü and her family during this time. It also lauded the prompt arrest of the accused by Dimapur Police and urged the judiciary to award exemplary judgement so that such crimes are not repeated.
In a similar condemnation note, Akehta Sangtamlaru Thsingmujang (AST) has expressed its deepest concern and strongest condemnation and described the threat as an attempt to intimidate and silence a vocal advocate for peace, equality, and justice in the community.
The organisation stated that the act of aggression was highly condemnable, not only because it targeted a specific individual but also because it undermined the safety and security of all women leaders and activists working towards the betterment of society.
It further observed that issuing death threats and spewing vulgar, abusive remarks, especially against women, was not only criminal but also reflected moral decay. "Such actions have no place in any civilised society, least of all in one rooted in dignity, respect, and safety," the statement read.
The organisation acknowledged the prompt response by the authorities in taking the accused into custody and added that it trusts the investigation would be conducted thoroughly and that the perpetrators would be brought to justice to set a strong precedent against such acts of intimidation.
