DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation
(DAYO) has appreciated the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) on its appeal to the
concerned authority to start plying of all day and night buses from the
designated inter-state bus terminal (ISBT).
“It has been more than two decades (i.e. 2002) that the ISBT
was inaugurated within the vicinity of the city. This was constructed in a 7.50
acres site with the terminus having the capacity of handling more than 200
buses and funded by NEC. Sadly, the infrastructure has never been fully
utilised and pathetically only few of the Nagaland State Transport (NST) buses
operate from the terminus,” DAYO said.
It stated that successive district administration, over the
years, have issued half-hearted directives and feeble reminders for plying from
the terminus to the private bus operators, which fell on deaf ears. It added
that instead of becoming a buzzing transport hub, it is nearly becoming a
deserted destination.
DAYO presumed that the failure of not optimally utilising
the government sanctioned infrastructure could be one of the reasons why many
of the central government sanctioned projects meant for Dimapur are transferred
to other districts in recent memory.
The recent black topping of half kilometer road connecting
the ISBT to the four-lane should now eliminate any further excuse used by
vested interest, DAYO demanded.
It stated that DAYO would extend all possible support to
ensure that the stand of NCD is heeded to by the district administration and
the police in order to tackle immediate logistical challenges.
DAYO further stated that it is in the interest of the
citizens of Nagaland to ensure that the expansion and growth of Dimapur city as
the commercial centre reaches its deserving stature as the gateway of Nagaland.
