NetZero Horizon and GSWS have proposed developing Dimapur as India's first NetZero District, focusing on climate resilience, sustainability, and inclusive development.

DIMAPUR — In a landmark initiative aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and India's commitment to sustainable development, NetZero Horizon and the Good Shepherd Welfare Society (GSWS), Dimapur, have proposed developing Dimapur as India's first NetZero District under the flagship NetZero District Model (NDM).
A high-level delegation comprising NetZero Horizon consulting advisor Deepak Thakur, editor-in-chief Rahul Deo, managing editor Saurav Kumar, and GSWS president Imli Yanger Jamir met Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav at Lok Bhavan, Kohima, on July 11 to present the vision and roadmap for the initiative.
According to a GSWS update, the governor accepted an invitation to attend the upcoming "Grid to Growth" event as chief guest.
The programme is scheduled to be held in New Delhi on August 29. Yadav also wished the initiative success and appreciated the effort to position Nagaland at the forefront of India's climate action and sustainable development efforts.
The NetZero District Model aims to transform Dimapur into a nationally recognised model for climate-resilient and inclusive development by focusing on four strategic pillars: energy security, water security, green skilling, and community-led governance.
The initiative is envisioned as a scalable framework that can be replicated across districts in India, supporting the country's transition to a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy.
Speaking during the meeting, members of the NetZero Horizon delegation said the initiative draws inspiration from the Prime Minister's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 by translating national climate goals into actionable interventions at the district level.
The project seeks to bring together governments, industry, academic institutions, civil society organisations, and local communities to create measurable environmental, economic, and social impact.
The proposed programme for Dimapur will include stakeholder consultations, institutional partnerships, capacity-building initiatives, policy support, and pilot projects aimed at strengthening local resilience while promoting sustainable development.
"Through this initiative, NetZero Horizon and GSWS seek to establish a replicable blueprint for district-level climate governance that contributes meaningfully to India's long-term net-zero goals and sustainable development objectives," the update stated.
