(EM Images)[/caption] Kohima, Dec. 12 (EMN): To promote and publicise various digital options, the department of Information Technology & Communication has organised a seven-day ‘Digi Dhan Mela’ on the theme ‘Go cashless, go digital’ at Civil Secretariat, Kohima, on December 12. Speaking at the inaugural programme as the chief guest, Dr. Longrineken made a brief highlight of the primary objectives of the mela which is to spread awareness among customers and merchants on various digital payment methods. Stating ‘We live in an exciting times where technology pervades out lives,’ he maintained that in this increasingly complex and rapidly changing environment, government agencies need to ride the waves of change and continuously adapt to new trends. Dr. Longrineken observed that the rising popularity of the internet, widespread mobile access and the rapid take-up of social media tools mean that government will need to be more connected, innovative and efficient in harnessing ICT to deliver higher and more sustainable public value. He also asserted that the emergence of information technologies call for fundamental rethinking and transformation shifts in the way ‘we’ look at e-Governance and added that government must take on the role of a facilitator and enabler through collaboration with public private and people sectors in creating new solutions, businesses and wealth. While expressing hope that the event would create great interest among the public on the methods of digital payment and help in the acceleration of e-Governance adoption in the state, he appealed all to be agile and innovative in the fast changing operating environment and also adapt an attitude and mindset that is receptive to ICT based administration and ICT based delivery of services. The event was part of Digital India, an initiative of the Government of India to go cashless and go digital. In a handout, the department has cited the benefits of going cashless that eliminates need to carry cash, offers more security, convenient way to carry out banking without visiting the bank or ATMs. Mobile bill payment and recharge, aadhar correction PAN card services, Indian Passport services, online GPF and mobile-aadhaar linking, organic fruits, vegetables and homemade cookies, assorted items and gift packs are available at the mela.
