Dimapur, Sep. 19 (EMN): Altogether 47 persons with physical disabilities received new lease of life through the philanthropic activities of the SD Jain Charitable Clinic today.
The management SD Jain Charitable Clinic distributed 47 artificial limbs, calipers, and wheelchairs to the patients with the contribution of 85 donors from Jain community on September 19 in a programme held at the SD Jain Girl’s College auditorium, Dimapur, in the presence of the State Governor PB Acharya as the chief guest.
Stating that the differently-abled people were earlier called “apangs” (disabled), Achraya said the Narendra Modi government gave them a respectable name “divyang” (divine body). In his address, the Governor called upon the people from various communities to stand for the society and serve the people rather than becoming self-centred.
Lauding the Jain community for taking up the social service of helping the differently-abled people, Acharya quoted an old adage “Service to the people is service to God.” Appreciating the commendable service of the Jain community, Acharya urged the community to involve themselves more into social service for the cause of the downtrodden section of the people.

Acharya noted that the Digambar Jain community’s service, which is commendable, has shown the path to the people through their service of construction of school and imparting education to children, which according to him was a big step towards service to people.
The Governor urged upon the community to serve the society to make the country strong. He also called upon them to raise voice for the cause of needy people instead of becoming self-centred.
Acharya also suggested the Jain community not to remain confined in Dimapur alone but also venture out in other parts of Nagaland and provide service to the people.
Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome, extended his gratitude to the Jain community for reaching out to the needy in a befitting way of celebrating communal existence through their service.
On the occasion, SD Jain Samaj president, Om Prakash Sethi, announced that the Jain community is working towards making the SD Jain Charitable Clinic into a research centre in three years time.
