Kohima, Sep. 22 (EMN):In a first of its kind, teacher trainees from District Institute for Education and Training (DIET), Chiechama, have creatively composed some original nursery rhymes to make learning more interesting and lively in the classrooms.
This idea was conceptualised by Senior Lecture of DIET, Chiechama, Kenilo Semp as part of the training syllabus. Stating that music plays an important role in our lives, he opined that it can be applied in the classrooms as a ‘tool for memorisation.’
He informed that the teacher trainees have composed 10 nursery rhymes which can be incorporated in teaching maths, science, environmental studies and English to make teaching and learning process more interesting and lively with a different concept.
The rhymes were recorded at Clef Ensemble which will be officially released in the month of October coinciding with the silver jubilee of DIET, Chiechama. The rhymes collections have been introduced to some few schools namely at Joyance Pre-School, Mt. Hermon School and Northfield School.
Interacting with some media persons, Semp wondered ‘why none of the talented Naga musicians have given a thought about composing nursery rhymes of our own’ while our school children have been singing the western composed nursery rhymes all these years.
While appreciating SCERT for their help and support, Semp said the main objective is to come out with some original nursery rhymes of ‘our own’ to make learning of maths and science more fun, besides encouraging the young musicians to compose more of our rhymes.
He was optimistic that these rhymes would make learning more fun and enjoyable towards a child learning approach through a different concept.
