- DIMAPUR — A
state-of-the-art haemodialysis unit at Hezukhu Memorial District Hospital
Zunheboto was inaugurated on Wednesday.
- The facility, sponsored by Indian Oil Aarogyam, was formally
inaugurated by Dharam Raj, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Zunheboto.
- Speaking at the inaugural programme, the DC expressed
gratitude to the Department of Health and Family Welfare and acknowledged the
district hospital authority for their tireless efforts in bringing the
essential facility to the district.

- Highlighting the rising cases of cancer and kidney-related
diseases, he stated that installation of a dialysis unit was a milestone
achievement in public healthcare for the district, stated an update from the
office of the chief medical officer (CMO) of Zunheboto.
- He called upon the stakeholders and community leaders to
view the development as a beacon of hope and stressed on the importance of
community cooperation in sustaining such healthcare services.
- In his keynote address, Dr. S Kuotsutho, Medical
Superintendent of Zunheboto, informed that the dialysis unit would be managed
by a trained technician, nurses and doctors and supervised by specialist
physicians, ensuring a high standard of patient care.
- He added that the initiative has not only expanded critical
health services at the hospital but also reaffirmed the commitment to provide
accessible and quality healthcare to the people of Zunheboto.
- The chairperson of the programme, Dr. K Shikato Sema, Senior
Medical Officer (SMO) of District Hospital, highlighted that chronic kidney
failure, often resulting from uncontrolled hypertension and diabetes mellitus
have been a growing concern in the district.

- He pointed out that, until now, patients were compelled to
travel outside the district to seek and undergo dialysis treatment, incurring
significant financial and emotional distress. With the installation of the
facility, he stated that patients and their families would now have access to
essential treatment locally, reducing costs and ensuring timely care.
- Delivering the vote of thanks, Dr. K Akaho Sema, senior
specialist at the district hospital, appreciated all stakeholders and
reiterated the department’s unwavering commitment to advancing healthcare in
the district.
- The programme was attended by representatives from civil
society organisations, Sumi Totimi Hoho, town councillors, staff of the
district hospital and the CMO’s office.
