Dimapur, Jan. 8: District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) welcomed new chaplain Rev. Yhunlo Thong into the DHD family on January 8 at a formal programme held at DHD Chapel.
DHD Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr. CW Tungoe formally, while welcoming the new DHD chaplain and his family for accepting to serve God through the hospital ministry, asserted that 50 percent of DHD patients include non Christian and said it will be an opportunity for those in the ministry to deliver the gospel.
In his address, Dr. Tungoe highlighted specific area of activities of a chaplain in the hospital which is not a full-fledged pastor but partly evangelical. Besides other activities, he remarked that the primary action of a chaplain should be evangelism towards the needy patients and to the non Christians admitted in the hospital. The DHD MS further extended his gratitude towards Nagaland Missionary Movement (NMM) for inducting Rev. Yhunlo Thong to be part of DHD family.
Rev. Thong, the newly inducted chaplain who has served 24 years in the ministry, assured the hospital staff of his commitment toward the new responsibility. He has also solicited constructive suggestions for a better communication. ‘We can all work together in peace and harmony’ through prayer, Rev. Thong said.
Rev. Thong, ordained reverend by the Council of Rengma Baptist Churches (CRBC), has been serving in the ministry for the past 24 years in various capacities. He had served as assistant pastor at Khenyu Baptist Church; pastor at Tseminyu Old Town Baptist Church; president of Rengma Pastors and Deacons Conference for two terms; chairman of CRBC Mission Board; and secretary of CRBC Ordained Ministers Fellowship.
After receiving his formal education from Nagaland, Rev. Thong received theological education from Ministry Training Institute, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Haggai Institute Training, Singapore.
NMM assistant director, Rev. Khevihe Yeptho, prior to formally inducting Rev. Thong as the new chaplain of DHD, conveyed that hospital ministry is entirely different from other ministries. ‘But when we come together as one, we will be able to deliver better,’ Rev. Khevihe Yeptho exhorted. He also persuaded the Rengma baptist churches and Tseminyu Town Baptist Church to extend their prayer support for DHD and Rev. Thong.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Ngopelo of DHD and the formal induction was administered by Rev. Khevihe Yeptho.
