Dimapur, Oct.6: FC Alianza suffered consecutive draws in two weeks as they were held to a goalless draw by Dorian’s Society on day eight of the ongoing Dimapur Football League played at the DDSC Stadium in Dimapur on Sat. Oct.6.
After a slow start to the match, with nothing much happening in the first 15 minutes, both teams began to show signs of urgency as the half-hour mark drew closer. The two teams continued its attack with constant crosses into the oppositions’ penalty area, but both teams couldn’t find a way through with the defenders uncompromising in their positions.
Akum of Dorian’s Society came close to finding the back of the net in stoppage time of the first 30 minutes, but failed to direct his header to the goalmouth which went just wide.
As always, the second half started with high intensity, with the Dorian’s striker Ngullie, first trying his luck from just outside the ‘D’ area that failed to test the goal minder. The next turn fell to Soihiampou of Alianza, who volleyed the ball well over the bar.
Alianza continued to maintain the momentum, during which they had three consecutive corner kicks, but the players of Alianza always failed to hit the ball past the goalkeeper.
With five minutes left, Hevuse of Dorian’s Society cannoned the ball from the centre of the ground which flew towards the left corner of the goal when the goalkeeper of Alianza, Homuka, went airborne and palmed the ball out for a corner as the match faded out into a stalemate.
Earlier, before the kick-off of the second match, the match patron of the day, O Elhibemo Yanthan, encouraged the players to maintain discipline at all times. He stated that football is a game in which teamwork plays a vital role in determining the outcome of the game.
The match patron also urged the players to unite people of different communities through the game of football. Admitting that one cannot always win or lose in football, he advised the players to be gracious in defeat, while being humble in victory.
In the other match of the day P Vizheto FC thrashed United V&S 3-0. Kakhevi of Vizheto FC scored a brace in the 33rd and 71st minute while Inito added a goal in the 42nd minute to condemn United V&S to the bottom of the table.
