Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, along with the Union Minister of Communications
and Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya M
Scindia, on Thursday chaired a meeting of the high-level task force on sports
for the north eastern region to make NE India's sports hub at the conference
hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
- The chief minister of Mizoram, deputy chief minister of
Nagaland, additional chief secretary of Meghalaya and joint secretary of the
Sports department joined the meeting via video conferencing, wherein various
initiatives aimed at developing the region’s sports sector were discussed.

- During the meeting, Scindia highlighted several areas that
require special attention such as talent identification, training and coaching,
establishment of coaching centres, promotion of public-private partnerships,
infrastructure development and increased focus on women in sports.
- Earlier, Manipur Governor Bhalla and Union Minister Scindia
also chaired a meeting with officials from the DoNER ministry, which presented
a comprehensive review of the status of various projects currently underway in
Manipur.
- During the meeting, the Union Minister also highlighted
several areas that require focused attention for the development of the state.
Those included handicrafts and handloom, sports, tourism, international trade,
agriculture — particularly palm oil farming in the region, logistics and the
development of national highways.
