KOHIMA — The Kohima Village Sports Association (KVSA) Meet 2026 is scheduled to be held from January 10 to the 16th at six locations in Kohima.
Themed "Kevi Merü", the 67th edition of the sports meet aims to unite everyone and to expect good things, according to the organiser. The Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) will be hosting this year's edition.
Addressing a press conference at Khouchiezie, Kohima Local Ground, on Monday, executive members of the KVYO, led by its president Medozhazo Rutsa, said the total prize pool for this year's meet is INR 13 lakh.
For athletics, the total cash award is INR 4.95 lakh (excluding record breaks), Games is INR 3.38 lakh, and wrestling is INR 3 lakh (excluding individual awards).
The Great Indian Barbet has been chosen as the mascot to symbolise energy, resilience and harmony with nature, the president added.
Athletics events will be held at Indira Gandhi (IG) Stadium, Rüleizou and Khuochiezie, Kohima Local Ground; cricket at Meriema Village Ground; and football at IG Stadium, Rüleizou.

Volleyball and basketball will be held at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School ground; table tennis and badminton at State Indoor Stadium, Thegabakha, Kohima; shooting (10 metre) at Ziekezou Indoor Stadium, Kohima Village; and wrestling at Khouchiezie, Kohima Local Ground.
Except for wrestling and cricket, which is limited to men, all other sports have both men and women categories. Wrestling will be held on the final day of the event, January 16.
Advisor for School Education and State Council of Educational Research and Training, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, will attend the opening ceremony, and MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso will attend the closing ceremony.
About 900 participants, including athletes, coaches and managers, are expected to participate in the sports meet.
It may be mentioned that shooting (10m) and cricket were first introduced in the previous year's edition.
