Deputy Speaker S Toiho Yeptho addresses the 86th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference in Lucknow on legislative capacity.

DIMAPUR — The Deputy Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, S Toiho Yeptho, along with the secretary-in-charge and accompanying officers, attended the 86th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference (AIPOC) held from January 18 to the 21st in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
According to an update, the 86th AIPOC brought together speakers, deputy speakers, and presiding officers from various states and union territories, fostering dialogue on pressing issues of governance, parliamentary procedure, and institutional capacity.
During the first plenary session, Yeptho delivered an address on the theme “Capacity building of legislators to increase efficiency and strengthen democratic governance”.

With rising public expectations and rapid technological change, he highlighted the critical need for legislators to continually build their skills and knowledge to meet the evolving challenges of governance and the need to equip elected members with the tools, knowledge and skills to serve effectively.
He underscored that effective capacity building not only enhances legislative efficiency but also fortifies the democratic fabric of the nation.
He further highlighted Nagaland’s progress, stating that the state is not far behind the rest of the country in adopting best practices and strengthening democratic governance.
“I have listened and learned many valuable lessons from the deliberations held during this conference. These insights will undoubtedly guide us in improving our legislative processes and ensuring that democracy continues to thrive,” the deputy speaker noted.
