Deputy commissioner Kohima issues strict regulations to pharmacies

- DIMAPUR — The
deputy commissioner (DC) of Kohima, B Henok Buchem, has directed all pharmacies
and medical stores in Kohima district to strictly adhere to the Drugs and
Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Rule 65 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945.
- The order stated that sale of restricted drugs such as
Schedule ‘X’, ‘H’, and ‘H1’ drugs should only be sold based on a valid
prescription from a registered medical practitioner and only in the quantity
specified in the prescription.
- It has also directed the pharmacies to maintain a register
documenting all sales of the aforementioned drugs including details of the
prescriber, patient, drug and quantity sold. The records must be preserved for
three years and be available for inspection.
- In compliance with the National Commission for Protection of
Child Rights (NCPCR), it stated that the district drug controller authority and
the district enforcement force, Kohima, would inspect the CCTV footage of the
last two months.
- It warned that non-compliance with the directives would
result in penal action under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS),
Section 28A of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and other applicable legal
provisions.
- The DC further instructed all pharmacies and medical stores
to strictly adhere to those regulations to ensure compliance with the law and
prevent the misuse of restricted drugs.
