DIMAPUR — The 211th Bhanu Jayanti celebration of the Nepali community, organised by the Hamro Chinhari Nagaland Prant (HCNP), was observed at the Holy Cross Auditorium in Dimapur on Sunday, with Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton as the chief guest.
Patton was accompanied by Advisor for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, A Pangjung Jamir, and other invitees.
In his address, the deputy CM lauded the Nepali-speaking community's contributions to Nagaland's growth and harmony.
Patton lauded Acharya's work, highlighting his role in translating the Ramayana into Nepali and making classical literature more accessible. He also praised Acharya's poetry for its themes of nature, devotion, and social issues, which promote unity, empathy, and progress.
He also acknowledged the Gorkha and Nepali communities' significant contributions to Nagaland's development in education, healthcare, trade, and agriculture.
He lauded the event for recognising academic excellence among students from diverse communities, emphasising education’s role in societal progress. “Education remains the strongest foundation for any society's progress. When we recognise and encourage our young scholars, we invest in our state's future,” he said.
Emphasising that “Our strength lies in our diversity,” the deputy CM highlighted the need for peaceful coexistence and celebration of diversity in Nagaland.
“We support cultural organisations like Hamro Chinhari Nagaland Prant that work to preserve traditions and promote learning. We believe that when communities are strong in their cultural identity, they contribute more effectively to the larger society.”
The celebration of Bhanu Jayanti, he said, also reminds people of the power of literature to bridge differences and create understanding.
“In our interconnected world, we need more than ever, the kind of wisdom that great literature provides. Poetry, stories and cultural expressions help us see beyond our immediate concerns and connect with universal human experiences,” he added.
Patton reaffirmed the government's commitment to preserving cultural heritage and promoting inclusive development. He lauded organisations like HCNP for safeguarding traditions and nurturing young minds, highlighting the importance of strong cultural identities in strengthening society.
Yoga Guru and Central Chief Coordinator of Hamro Swabhiman Trust, Dr. Mohan Karki, who attended the event as the guest of honour, praised Nagaland's natural beauty and potential, encouraging the audience to adopt a healthy lifestyle and work together to improve the state.
In his message, Dr. Karki emphasised the importance of collective effort and wellness in achieving progress and development in Nagaland.
The event also recognised individual achievements in education, sports and public service. The celebration featured cultural performances, folk dances, and musical exhibitions, highlighting the region's rich traditions and inter-community unity.
Additionally, the programme featured keynote addresses by president of Hamro Chinhari Central (North East India) Dr. Bishnu Bhandari and Arthur Edward, founder of Livingstone International.
