Kohima, Feb. 27 (EMN): Against the backdrop of alleged irregularities in the disbursement of National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) to the beneficiaries in Mokokchung district during 2014-14, the department has clarified that the irregularities has been rectified by carrying out thorough investigation against the erring officers.
The department stated that the amount was returned to the directorate and where less payment was made in full.
It may be mentioned irregularities was detected through RTI in the disbursement of National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) grants to beneficiaries in the district of Mokokchung during 2014-15 by para-legal volunteers namely ST Yapang Longlumer and Odi Jamir, which was published in local dailies on January 15 last.
The First Appellate Authority of Directorate of Social Welfare Department informed this during the hearing on February 15.
It informed that an amount of INR 80,000 for four beneficiaries- two from Longkhum village and two from Chungtia village, which was drawn against fictitious name of deceased persons, was returned to the directorate.
To those eight beneficiaries given INR 10,000 each and four beneficiaries not paid at all, it stated the defaulting officers and staff had recovered the due amount and paid to the deprived beneficiaries.
It may be mentioned that families living below the poverty line were entitled to get financial benefits of INR 20,000 after the death of the sole breadwinner (male/female) under the NFBS.
