Dept issues JE alert in Dimapur

Dimapur, July 31 (EMN): The Chief Medical Officer of Dimapur district, Dr.K.Vikato Kinimi has on Monday announced that there have been reported cases of Japanese Encephalitis in the district and issued a series of precautionary measures to be observed by the citizens. He also stated that among the vector borne diseases, JE is more serious as the mortality rate is high for the infected persons and even survivors are left with neurological deficits. The press release from the CMO advised not to rear pig close to human habitations as pigs acts as an amplifying host; to wear long sleeved clothing /clothing to fully cover the body while working outdoors; to use mosquito net/ LLIN at night ; and not to allow collection of water near one's house. He also stated that the department will be implementing , fogging with Malathion Technical; release of larvivorous fishes in stagnant water bodies; Awareness campaigns ; and monitoring of vector density in the district. The citizens were also informed that for confirmatory tests, blood samples may be send to Sentinel Surveillance Laboratory at District Hospital Dimapur.
