Department of Posts introduces the Other Departmental Employee (ODE) category to expand PLI and RPLI outreach, allowing eligible government employees to promote postal insurance outside official hours.
DIMAPUR — The Department of Posts has introduced a new category of sales force, termed “Other Departmental Employee (ODE),” to expand the outreach of Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI).
Under the new provision, serving central and state government employees, other than employees of the Department of Posts, holding posts up to Level-8 of the Pay Matrix will be eligible to engage as ODEs for procuring PLI/RPLI business, a DIPR report stated.
The initiative is aimed at leveraging the business potential available across various government departments and expanding the reach of PLI/RPLI services among eligible beneficiaries, particularly the rural population. It is also intended to contribute towards the Government’s vision of “Viksit Bharat”.
The engagement of ODEs will be purely voluntary and will not create any employer-employee relationship between the ODE and the Department of Posts.
ODEs will be required to procure PLI/RPLI business strictly outside their official working hours and in accordance with instructions issued by the PLI Directorate.
