KOHIMA — Officials from the National Institute of Rubber Training (NIRT), Rubber Board of India, Kottayam, led by Director Priya Verma, along with officials from the Department of Land Resources (DoLR), Government of Nagaland, conducted a training and interaction programme with rubber growers on Tuesday at the Department’s Resource Centre in Ruzaphema, Chümoukedima.
The programme was organised as part of the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the DoLR and NIRT to strengthen rubber cultivation and capacity building among growers in the state.
Officials informed that the initiative also aims to facilitate the establishment of a Nodal Centre of NIRT in Nagaland by utilising existing facilities, which is expected to help bridge critical gaps in rubber production in the state.

According to the department, over 20,000 hectares of rubber plantations have already been developed in Nagaland by the DoLR. With the support of NIRT and the Rubber Board of India, efforts will be made to enhance productivity through training, technical know-how and installation of equipment such as Dry Rubber Content (DRC) testing instruments.
An official from the DoLR said the partnership aligns with the department’s vision of promoting the “3Es” — Ecology, Employment and Economy — through sustainable rubber cultivation in the state.
