Dimapur, March 29 (EMN): District Election Officer (DEO), Dr Manazir Jeelani Samoon, has sought written explanation within 48 hours (ie by 8 pm on March 30) from National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Hayithung Tungoe for violation of model code of conduct.
In an order, the DEO stated that the current general election to Lok Sabha was announced by the Commission on March 10 and the provisions of model code of conduct were imposed from that date. The model code of conduct mandates contesting candidates to seek prior permission from appropriate authority for any electioneering activity.
However, it stated that the candidate conducted a public meeting on March 28 at LTC hall, Wokha, without prior permission. In view of the development, DEO has sought written explanation by 8 pm on March 30 failing which it stated that appropriate action would be undertaken against him.
