DIMAPUR — Dense to very dense fog is likely to persist across Nagaland and other parts of the Northeast over the next few days, with minimum temperatures remaining below normal in several areas, according to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) latest All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin issued on Monday evening.
The IMD has forecast dense fog during night and early morning hours over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till January 3, while Arunachal Pradesh is expected to see foggy conditions till December 31. Assam and Meghalaya are also likely to experience dense fog conditions till January 3, which may affect visibility and disrupt road and air travel across the region.
Minimum temperatures across parts of the Northeast, including Nagaland, have been recorded as markedly below normal, with departures of more than 5 degrees Celsius below average at isolated places, the bulletin noted. No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over the region for the next few days, though a gradual rise of 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely thereafter.
Rainfall activity over the Northeast is expected to remain limited, with only isolated light rainfall forecast over Arunachal Pradesh during the next few days, while most other parts of the region, including Nagaland, Assam and Meghalaya, are likely to remain dry through the week.
The IMD warned that dense fog could lead to poor visibility on highways and at airports, increasing the risk of traffic disruptions and delays. It also advised residents to take precautions against cold-related health issues, particularly during prolonged exposure in the early morning and late night hours.
