Dimapur, Aug. 23 (EMN): Taking stock of the reported outbreak of dengue in areas along the National Highway 29, the EAC of Chumukedima Thejavizo Nakhro NCS on Thur., in the interest of public health and safety, ordered a weekly social works in the entire area till Sept. 30 so as to control the spread of the disease.
The EAC Chumukedima ordered that a weekly mass social work at the colony/khel level in all villages along the NH-29 from Sovima/Sodzulhou to Tenyiphe/7th Mile Model village till 30th September, 2018. All the residents should clean their own colony/kehl and take necessary measures to address both man-made and natural mosquito breeding sites.
A weekly individual house/compound level social work in all the villages will also be organised till Sept. 30 2018 during which all residents should clean their own house/compound and take necessary measures to remove/destruct/sanitise mosquito breeding sites such as wells, unused tyres, drums, flower pots/vase, tanks, solid waste etc.
Nakhro ordered that emphasis should be given to removal of man-made/natural mosquito breeding sites, cleaning of clogged drains, emptying/covering of domestic water storage containers and other measures for destruction of mosquito breeding habitats should be taken during the social work.
While asking the village authorities to activate the participants of TOT held at Sovima village and utilize their services during the conduct of the social work, the EAC directed the village authorities to prepare and execute a weekly social work plan and submit it to the office of EAC Chumukedima without delay.
The EAC also requested all the residents to cooperate with the village authorities and execute the social works as per the village social work plans for their own safety as well as for the safety of the neighbourhood.
It is worth mentioning here that there has been a rise in dengue cases in an around the NH 29 area during the past few weeks.
