DIMAPUR — Demolition of Tourist Lodge in Dimapur is underway, following Nagaland government’s lease agreement with Hotel Polo Towers Group (HPTG) to develop high-end hospitality infrastructure in Dimapur and Kohima under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
By Friday, most of the structure had already been torn down, with workers continuing the dismantling work.
The lease agreement was signed on September 14, 2023, between Tourism department and Hotel Polo Towers Group.
The project covers Dimapur Tourist Lodge, as well as the erstwhile New Millennium building at New Ministers’ Hill in Kohima, for the development of 4/5-star or higher-category hotels with integrated entertainment and retail facilities.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror on Friday, an official from Tourism department said the Dimapur project, undertaken entirely by HPTG is expected to be completed within two years.

The official said the “6-star hotel” project in Dimapur has full financial backing, with 100% of the investment coming from the company, and expressed confidence that the construction would be completed on schedule.
On the relocation of existing Tourist Lodge staff, the official said they will be transferred within the Tourism department and adjusted against available assets.
The signing ceremony in 2023 was held at Hotel Japfü in Kohima. At the time, it was announced that the lease period would run for 30 years from the commencement of commercial operations, extendable for another 30 years on similar terms.
After completion of 60 years, the parties will decide on further renewal.
According to the earlier announcement, the redeveloped Dimapur Tourist Lodge will house premium accommodation, multiple dining spaces, entertainment facilities and retail outlets.
The annual rent for the property has been fixed at INR 35 lakh with a 4% annual increase.
