Dehydration, processing training underway in Phek
Organised by the Nagaland Tool Room and Training Centre, a free six-week entrepreneurship skill development programme on fruit and vegetable dehydration and processing is underway in Phek

- DIMAPUR — As part
of the Skilled and Empowered Phek (Indo-Myanmar Borders) initiative, a free
six-week entrepreneurship skill development programme on fruit and vegetable
dehydration and processing is underway in Phek.
- According to an update, the programme was inaugurated on
February 11 at the Tourist Lodge, Phek, by the Superintendent of Police, Phek,
Dr. Pritpal Kaur.
- Sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium
Enterprises, the training is being organised by the Nagaland Tool Room and
Training Centre (NTTC) and Phek Police, in collaboration with Women VDB Phek
Village.
- Speaking at the event, Dr. Kaur encouraged self-help groups
(SHGs) and school dropouts to explore entrepreneurship opportunities through
food processing. She emphasised that farming is the backbone of every society,
and income from processed food products can help farmers meet their economic
needs.
- She also urged school dropouts to acquire new skills and
strive for self-sufficiency, rather than falling into drug addiction and other
intoxicants.
- Olive Awomi, a trainer from NTTC, provided an overview of
various food processing techniques and conducted hands-on training for the
participants.
- Earlier, the programme began with an invocation by Rev.
Vesito Venuh, followed by a welcome address from Huvekholu Keyho, Women VDB
Secretary. Kuzhonolu Huire chaired the event, which saw participation from over
40 SHG members.
- The training aims to equip participants with practical
skills in food processing, opening avenues for self-employment and economic
growth in the region.
