DIMAPUR — The Department of Geology and Mining commissioned deep tube wells for Kandinu, K Station, and Yikhanu villages on September 9 at Kandinu Village Council Hall, Tseminyu district.

According to a press release, during the programme, the Director of the Directorate of Geology and Mining, Khikiya Kath Rengma, urged the community to prioritise conservation and preservation of water bodies.

Citing the importance of water bodies and the need to keep the environment healthy, he stated that every citizen must take the moral responsibility to recharge water bodies in order to save the world from water scarcity.

For years, the three villages in Tseminyu district have faced severe water shortages, and it was impossible for the villagers to bring water supply to the area in order to meet the needs of the rural people. However, the department has come as a blessing in disguise for these three villages.

Tosang Chang, Dy. Director and geologist, stated in her technical report that water was tapped from about 150 feet below the ground and was tested as one of the best in the area. As a lucky one among many, she urged the community to make the best use of the facility.

The event was attended by village leaders and church leaders from six villages, as well as Kusoto Nguri, Joint Director of Geology and Mining, Joel Kath, President of the Kandi Chairman Forum, and others.
