Our Correspondent Imphal, Sep. 3 (EMN): Normal life was crippled for the second day in Manipur, particularly in Imphal town, on Tuesday due to the 48-hour general strike called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC), formed in connection with the death of a school girl. The strike which is scheduled to end at 6 am on wednesday was called by the JAC demanding justice for the girl student who was found dead at her school hostel in Imphal west district on July 18. Markets, commercial establishments, banks, and educational institutions remain closed during the day. Presence of staff except the senior officers in government offices in Imphal was very thin. No untoward incident was reported till the filling of this report. Inter-state and inter-district besides other city-based public transport services also remained off the roads. The JAC wants the government to hand over the case to the CBI. The committee is also demanding immediate release of the arrested JAC leaders.
