The ongoing tragedy in Manipur is not just a law and order failure; it is a complete collapse of governance and accountability.
It is deeply disturbing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again chosen to remain silent while Manipur continues to burn. At a time when the nation expects (decisive) leadership, there is an unacceptable vacuum.
Equally, the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, has failed yet again. Despite repeated assurances and the reinstatement of the “double engine government” of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Manipur, the ground reality remains grim—violence persists, communities remain divided, and thousands continue to suffer.
In contrast, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has taken proactive steps. A delegation led by MPCC President OkramIbobi Singh recently met the Governor and submitted a detailed memorandum highlighting the worsening law and order situation and demanding urgent intervention to restore peace.
During the meeting, serious concerns were raised over:
• Continued violence since May 3, 2023
• Recent killings, including innocent children
• Use of excessive force by security agencies
• Failure of the administration to maintain law and order
The Governor was urged to take immediate steps and convey the gravity of the situation to the Central Government.
The people of Manipur have been left to fend for themselves. Homes have been destroyed, lives have been lost, and the social fabric has been torn apart. Yet, there is no serious discussion in Parliament, no urgency, and no accountability from those in power.
This is not governance. This is abandonment.
As the In-Charge for Manipur PCC Minority Department, I unequivocally state that the Indian National Congress stands firmly with the people of Manipur in this hour of crisis. We share their pain, we echo their demands, and we will continue to raise our voice until justice, peace, and normalcy are restored.
• An immediate Special Session of Parliament dedicated to Manipur
• Concrete steps to restore peace and ensure security
• Accountability for the complete failure of both the State and Central Governments.
India cannot remain silent while Manipur burns. Enough is enough. The people of Manipur deserve answers, action, and justice.
