Diphu, Aug.16 (EMN): As a part of the 76th Independence Day celebration, the Heavy Squad in collaboration with Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) organised men’s and women’s open prize money DeadLift Championship on August 15.
The competition was held in an open space in front of Ru Semson Sing Engti Memorial Park, where the spectators enjoyed the game under the street lights either sitting or standing on footpaths. There was a large crowd as the competition was held in an open space.
In men's category, Suman Chetry, bagged the first position while Drivinson Ronghang and Ronjit Timung were placed second and third respectively.
In the women's category, Tamhidi Rongpipi, took the first position, Linda Sithou emerged runners up and Neha Bordoloi bagged third position. The winners of both men’s and women’s categories were awarded cash prizes, trophies and certificates.
The Deadlift Championship was judged by state referee, Bidyasing Rongpi, and assisted by the president, Power Lifting Association of Karbi Anglong, Hudson Bey and secretary, Nikson Kro.
The convenor of Heavy Squad, Mongolsing Ronghang said as part of the 76th Independence Day celebration the deadlift competition was organised for young and enthusiastic powerlifters. He also said the competition was aimed at creating sports culture among the youths and to divert their attention from anti-social activities and addictive substances.
Ronghang expressed gratitude to chief executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang, executive member, Richard Tokbi, MLA Dorsing Ronghang and MACs for extending their support and cooperation.
