DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods
Mission (NSRLM) hosted a combined induction programme for the Deen Dayal
Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) training initiative at Naga United
Village, Chümoukedima.
According to an update, the event was attended by Minister
for the Department of Rural Development and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir.
Speaking on the occasion, Jamir expressed concern over the
trend of educated youth remaining dependent on their families and urged the
trainees to serve as ambassadors for Nagaland, emphasising the importance of
establishing a strong identity and demonstrating sincerity in the private
sector.
Imtimenla, Additional Secretary of Rural Development and
Mission Director of NSRLM, delivered the keynote address, emphasising the
programme's success in redirecting youth towards skill development and gainful
employment. She stated that it was a celebration to witness young people
choosing skill training over idleness.
She stated that through DDU-GKY, 8,136 individuals had been
successfully trained, with 5,276 placed in various establishments, including 22
international placements. These placements, she noted, contributed over INR 7
crore in monthly earnings to the workforce. She encouraged the trainees to
maintain sincerity and dedication in their training and subsequent employment,
emphasising that DDU-GKY had proven to be a catalyst for life-changing
transformations.
Paul Abonmai, a parent, shared how DDU-GKY enabled his
daughter to achieve her dream of working abroad, a feat previously unimaginable
for his family.
Yashikala, an 83-year-old guardian, expressed gratitude for the
free training and placement opportunity, which provided her orphaned
granddaughter with a secure future.
BT Tomwang Wangsa Konyak, a DDU-GKY beneficiary, recounted
his training experience, which not only shaped his professional life but also
equipped him to navigate challenges such as racism encountered while working
outside Nagaland. He now has a successful career in the cruise industry.
Thavaseelan K, Commissioner and Secretary of Rural
Development and SIRD, highlighted Nagaland's exemplary performance in
implementing DDU-GKY, noting its crucial role in addressing unemployment amid
saturated government job markets. He stressed the programme's expansion into
self-employment opportunities through DDU-GKY 2.0, empowering youth to become
job creators.
The event was also attended by Polan John, Deputy
Commissioner of Chümoukedima, as well as the additional director and head of
the Department of Rural Development, alongside senior officers from the
department.
