DIMAPUR — The Dimapur District Task Force (DDTF) on single-use plastics (SUPs) will set up a sub-committee to enforce and monitor the ban on SUPs in the district.
This was resolved during a meeting of the DDTF held at the DC’s conference hall on Aug. 8, a DIPR report stated. ADC Dimapur, Mhalo Humtsoe, who chaired the meeting, emphasised the importance of enforcing the government-mandated ban on single-use plastics.
It was also informed that defaulters would be penalised a sum of INR 10,000 for the first offence and INR 20,000 for second offence.
A formal order detailing the complete ban on SUPs, including fines and penalties for non-compliance would be notified, it stated.
The task force also decided to launch a widespread awareness campaign using IEC materials, print media, churches and schools to inform the public about single-use plastics and their alternatives.
Additionally, directives would be issued to churches, event organisers, hotel and venue owners to prohibit SUPs on their premises as a means of reducing demand.
Further, the DDTF informed that SUP public grievances app ‘SUP-CPCB’ has been developed by CPCB where any citizen can lodge complaint if they see any banned items.
