DDLSA sensitised jail inmates on their rights

DDLSA officials with the Jailor of Central Jail, Dimapur, pose for group photograph after the sensitisation programme on January 21.[/caption]   Dimapur, Jan 24: As part of the action plan formulated by the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), officials from Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) visited the Central jail, Dimapur, on January 21. The purpose of the visit was to take appraisal of the Jail conditions and extend legal services to the inmates. The team was led by Ajongba Imchen, who recently took the charges as secretary DDLSA and Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dimapur. In his address, Imchen exhorted the inmates to take their detention as an opportunity for reform and rehabilitation. A firm assurance was also given that trial of pending cases would be conducted keeping in mind the rights of prisoners regarding on investigation, legal representation and transparency in court proceedings. Nathaniel Kevichusa, Retainer Lawyer, spoke on the various legal services provided by the DDLSA and encouraged the inmates to seek legal representation, if so required. Miss Visheli H Yepthomi, Panel Advocate DDLSA, apprised the inmates on the rights of prisoners. Meanwhile, DDLSA team has expressed gratitude to the jailor Dr. Oben Yanthan and his staff of Central Jail for the cooperation.
