Dimapur, Feb. 11: Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF) has sought urgent need to restore peace and normalcy in the society. DDCF expressed this concern during its emergency meeting on February 10 wherein it discussed at length on the present situation arising out of the ULB elections in Nagaland.
DDCF condemned the incident that took place on January 31 night at Dimapur, where two precious young lives were lost.
The Forum president, N Joseph Lemtur, and the general secretary, Ahidur Rehman, on behalf of the Forum, extended condolence to the two bereaved families of late Avizo Metha and late Bendangnungsang Ao and prayed to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed souls.
DDCF was of the view that killing of two youths could have been averted had the concerned authority handled the situation more carefully. DDCF also expressed concern on the forthcoming HSLC and HSSLC exams and the cascading effect on the mentality of the students.
Moreover, it expressed concern ban on SMS and mobile data for such as long period which has multiple effects on students, businessmen, banking, interviews for job-seekers etc. DDCF requested the government to lift the ban at the earliest so as not to inflict further damage on the society.
DDCF also lauded the efforts made by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), the highest religious body in Nagaland to broker peace between the Government and the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) on January 30.
While expressing concern on the current political situation and the social unrest in the State, DDCF appealed for the restoration of peace and tranquillity in Nagaland.
