DIMAPUR — In a bid to end frequent disputes between autorickshaw drivers and passengers over fares, the Dimapur District Auto Drivers’ Union (DDADU) on Wednesday introduced a new “rate book” fixing approved fares and parking charges across Dimapur and adjoining areas.
Announcing the initiative, DDADU president Tito Yeptho said that the rate book, which will be available in all autorickshaws, contains written fare rates to ensure transparency and prevent overcharging.
The rate book was launched on January 26 and will come into effect from February 1.

Prepared in consultation with the Chümoukedima Regional Transport Authority (RTA), district administration and the union, Yeptho said that the rates have been verified and corrected wherever required.
Copies of the rate book will also be available free of cost at the DDADU office in Naga Shopping Arcade (Supermarket) area, Dimapur.
Urging passengers to refer to the rate book instead of engaging in arguments with drivers, Yeptho said that autorickshaw drivers have been instructed to carry the book in their vehicles at all times, failing which penalties will be imposed.

He added that the rate books will be distributed to respective auto parking lots.
On night fares, the DDADU president said that no fixed rates or timings have been prescribed, with fares to be decided through mutual negotiation between drivers and passengers.
Yeptho also said that the union has around 100–150 staff members, including executive members and parking in-charges, to address complaints.
Contact numbers of parking in-charges are displayed at parking lots, while grievances can also be taken up at the DDADU office.
He warned that drivers found without uniform or identity cards, or charging fares beyond the approved rates, would be handed over to the police as per existing rules.
Meanwhile, Yeptho announced that he has been re-elected as DDADU president for a third consecutive term, extending his leadership to nine years. He pledged to continue serving the people of Dimapur.
