DIMAPUR — The
deputy commissioner of Wokha, Vineet Kumar, has issued traffic regulations
within Wokha, which would come into effect from January 15.
In a circular, the DC informed that there would be complete
ban on movement of heavy commercial vehicles (7 tonnes and above) including
inter-district and inter-state vehicles between 7 am and 9 am in Wokha town
from Monday to Saturday.
He added that heavy commercial vehicles (7 tonnes and above)
would be allowed to ply in Wokha town along the NH-2 only (and no other roads)
thereafter between 9 am and 3 pm. The restriction on movement will get over
after 3 pm.
Besides, the order stated that there would a ban on loading
and unloading of goods at shops and godowns within Wokha town between 7 am and
3 pm.
All passenger vehicles like NST buses, school buses and
private passenger vehicles and town council garbage collection vehicles, power
department vehicles, fire tenders, police vehicles would be exempted from the
purview of the ban.
The order was issued in order to reduce risk to school
children and to improve traffic movement in Wokha town areas.
The order was issued following a consultative meeting held
in the month of November 2024 with various stakeholders. The resolutions to
this effect was taken in order to reduce the risk to school children and to
improve traffic movement in Wokha.
The DC has sought support and cooperation from all the
citizens and civil society organisations for successful enforcement of the
order. The order would come into effect from January 15.
