Wokha district administration issues strict SOPs following cases of African Swine Fever.

DIMAPUR — Following reported cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the Wokha district, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Wokha K Mhathung Tsanglao has notified infected and surveillance zones for the control and containment of the disease.
The infected zones include the Lower Mt. Tiyi College area, Wokha Block; Wokha village, Wokha Block; and Wokha town, Wokha Block, covering a one-kilometre radius of the infected premises.
According to a DIPR report, the surveillance zone will cover a 10 km radius from the infected premises, which includes a nine-kilometre radius outside the infected zone.

Considering the highly contagious nature of ASF and its severe impact on the pig population and the livelihood of farmers, the DC issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) to be strictly adhered to in the notified areas until further orders.
The administration has imposed a ban on the slaughter of pigs, import and export of pigs and piglets, and transportation of pigs, pork and pork products from the infected and surveillance zones.
It also directed immediate reporting of unusual pig sickness or mortality, proper disposal of carcasses as per prescribed guidelines, and strict adherence to disinfection and biosecurity protocols.
