Dimapur, June 13 (EMN): As a precautionary measure to mitigate the possible spread of Covid-19 and for public health and safety, the deputy commissioner of Mon has prohibited movement of public within 1-km radius of the containment zone surrounding Wangkhao Government College and the adjoining Industrial Training Institute (ITI) campus with immediate effect till further notice.
Deputy Commissioner of Mon Thavaseelan K issued the order in exercise of the power conferred upon him under section 144 of criminal procedure code, 1973, following detection of Covid-19 positive cases in an institutional quarantine centre in Mon town on June 12.
The order warned that anyone found violating the order would be liable for punishment under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, a DIPR report stated.
DC Mon stated that six returnees from Chennai were tested positive for Covid-19 at an institutional quarantine centre in Mon town. He added that seven samples, which were sent to RMRC Dibrugarh (ICMR) on June 12, tested positive. The returnees, all male in the age group between 18 and 32 years, were housed in an institutional quarantine centre in Mon town.
They reached Dimapur on May 22. All of them were tested in Dimapur and found negative in the initial test. They reached Mon on June 2 after spending 10 days in an institutional quarantine centre in Dimapur.
The report stated that after seven days, their samples were taken again and tested using TrueNat on June 10, which returned positive. The samples were then sent to ICMR (Dibrugarh) for confirmation on June 11, wherein six out of seven samples tested positive in the RT-PCR test.
In view of the detection of a number of active cases, the entire Wangkhao Government College campus and the adjoining ITI campus, where the quarantine centres are located, have been declared as containment zone, the report added.
The DC has appealed to the public not to panic, stating that the district task force and the Empowered Group of Mon district are taking all possible measures to ensure containment of cases and speedy recovery of positive cases. Public is also requested to continue maintaining social distancing, practice hand hygiene and wear face masks at all times.
