DIMAPUR — With the onset of monsoon and as per the advisory of the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), the deputy commissioner of Longleng, has advised the citizens of the district to follow certain precautionary measures.

“It has come to our attention that the onset of monsoon has brought forth a significant shift in weather patterns, necessitating a heightened state of preparedness among our community members,” the DC stated.

Taking cognisance of the potential risks associated with such weather conditions, the district administration advised all residents to adopt the following precautionary measures:

• Minimise non-essential outdoor activities, particularly those involving agricultural practices, cattle grazing, fishing, and unnecessary travel, during the specified period.

• Seek shelter in safe and secure structures, such as residential dwellings, offices, or designated community centers, when adverse weather conditions prevail. It is essential to avoid seeking refuge in temporary or weak structures.

• Remain vigilant and monitor local media channels for the latest updates, advisories, and instructions disseminated by NSDMA, the District Administration, and other relevant authorities. Timely information will empower us to make informed decisions regarding our safety.

• In the event that immediate shelter is required and no suitable structure is within proximity, promptly vacate elevated areas, including hills, mountain ridges, or peaks, which may pose a greater risk of lightning strikes or associated hazards.

The notification also urged each citizen of Longleng district to embrace a “collective responsibility in safeguarding ourselves, our families, and our community during this period of heightened weather activity. By adhering to the aforementioned precautionary measures and maintaining a sense of alertness, we can minimise potential hazards and contribute to the preservation of life and property.”

It further assured that the district administration is in constant coordination with NSDMA, actively monitoring the situation, and prepared to render necessary assistance in case of any eventuality.
