Dimapur, Mar. 6 (EMN): The 5th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) Longleng was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner office March 6 with Deputy Commissioner, Longleng John Tsulise Sangtam as the chief guest.
Exhorting the farmers and lauding the team KVK Longleng, DC asserted that with change of time and climatic condition of nature, the scientists and researchers have been putting an effort to replace the traditional method of farming with new scientific method suitable to farmers to promote our livelihood and boost rural economy. For this reason, DC appealed to farmers to constantly update their skills for wider knowledge on modern system of farming to promote their income.
Sangtam advised the farmers to attend trainings, seminars and demonstrations programmes imparted by the departments and avail the opportunity provided by the KVK and push forward for healthy production.
KVK scientists and researchers were also urged to provide high yielding deeds suitable to soil and climatic condition of the region with market avenue so that the hard earn labours and production of farmers do not go in vain.
DC also called for that mass participation of farmers and Agri and Allied sectors in future and also stressed on amicable relationship between the farmers and the department concern for maximum benefit to the farmers.
Dr. DJ Rajkowa, Joint Director ICAD, Nagaland Centre informed the farmers that the department have been trying their best effort to provide best service to the farmers since its inception in the district. He said that the farmers of Longleng have been responding faithfully and they have been exposed to different parts of the nation and awarded for their good work. He expect more participation from the farmers and Agri & Allied department to improve agriculture for livelihood and added that income of farmers cannot be double as envisaged by the Prime Minister Moti without participation and coordination of farmers and departments.
In order to promote double income of farmers, he urged the team KVK to train the farmers properly with latest technology and to adopt integrated farming system for large scale production and to focus on agriculture with different aspects.
He asserted that SAC meeting was a platform created for farmers where they can clarify their doubts and discuss their problems with the KVK scientist and find solution to the farming problems. He further informed that construction of new KVK office for Longleng have been approved by the department.
Dr. Azeze Seyie, scientist (Species, Plantation, Medicinal & Aromatic Plants), ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Nagaland Centre, Medziphema in her speech lauded the team KVK for their success stories and achievement towards development of farmers.
Seyie informed that research was done based on the reports of the SMS and scientist from different fields. She felt more participation and consolidate efforts of the Agri and Allied department to do more research and find solution to farming problems.
Farmers were also appealed to disseminate information, skills and knowledge learned from the resource persons back to their community for mass awareness and healthy production.
Presentation of Progress Report (2017-18) and action plan was proposed by Dr. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agronomy) and Dr. KL Meena senior scientist and head respectively.
