DIMAPUR — In an effort to motivate and expose young students to the workings of district administration, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Kohima, B Henok Buchem, on September 12 launched the ‘One day with deputy commissioner’ initiative.

A DIPR report stated that the first batch of five students from Dr. N Kire Government Higher Secondary School visited the DC’s office and participated in an interactive session designed to provide valuable insights into public service and governance.

During the programme, the students had the opportunity to interact with the DC, administrative officers, district officers, members of the Kohima Press Club and officials from the Nagaland Pollution Control Board.

It stated that the DC shared inspiring stories of bureaucrats, who overcame challenges, remained humble and achieved success through perseverance. He also emphasised the importance of hard work besides maintaining positive attitude, good health and leadership qualities.

Highlighting the purpose of the initiative, the DC encouraged the students to redefine their own paths and aim for excellence, irrespective of their family backgrounds.

It mentioned that the programme was aimed at building confidence, broaden perspectives and spark interest in public service careers among the youth.

It added that the initiative offered the students firsthand experience of the district administration’s functions and the system of governance at the local level.
