DC Kohima has issued traffic regulations on National Highway-29 near the old KMC dumping site, restricting movement for safety and road repair.

DIMAPUR — In view of the worsening condition of National Highway-29 at Chainage KM 175.100 and KM 175.350 near the old KMC dumping site, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kohima, B Henok Buchem, has informed that movement of vehicles along the affected section would be strictly regulated in the interest of public safety.


In an order, the DC stated that movement of non-transport light motor vehicles (LMV) would be allowed from 6 am to 6 pm under strict regulations, subject to permissible weather conditions. In the event of bad weather, it stated that the authorities would immediately impose restrictions.


The order also stated that the affected section of the National Highway would remain closed for traffic during the night hours. It was stated that all heavy vehicles, including water tankers, the movement of paramilitary vehicles, etc., and compact/mid-size pickup vehicles and all types of commercial passenger vehicles would be totally restricted.

Meanwhile, Kohima to Dimapur-bound light motor vehicles are asked to take the Jotsoma bypass road, while Dimapur to Kohima-bound vehicles (both LMV and HMV) are asked to take the Peducha Bridge-Tsiesema (10 Mile road).


It further stated that all paramilitary vehicles would be routed through the Peducha Bridge-Tsiesema (10 Mile) road only.


Stating that the order was issued to ensure public safety and the smooth execution of emergency operations and restoration work, it warned that violation of the order would be liable for prosecution under relevant sections of law.
