Dimapur, Jan. 23 (EMN): In view of the ensuing 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly elections 2018 and in accordance with the guidelines issued by ECI as well as the powers conferred upon him under section 144(A) of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973, deputy commissioner and district election officer, Kohima, Rajesh Soundararajan has issued an order prohibiting carrying of licensed arms/ weapons within the jurisdiction of Kohima district.
The order has been issued in order to ensure conduct of peaceful, free and fair poll during the elections, and for preservation of public peace and safety.
Carrying of licensed arms for the purpose of verification at the nearest police station or deposit of the same and for uploading in the NDAL database has however been exempted from the purview of this order.
The order would be enforce with immediate effect till the completion of the above said elections.
The word “arms” should have the meaning assigned to it in section 153AA of Indian Penal Code, 1860.
