Felicitating the colony on behalf of district administration, Yhome reminded the community that the colony leaders’ task for the colony starts today and as a resident of urban area, bigger problem of waste management lies ahead and the colony as a community should indoctrinate civic sense. ‘Nagas have required educational qualification and degrees but do not have civic sense,” pointed out Yhome which he addressed to be the first lesson a colony should inculcate. He further pointed out that cleaning one’s own home is not a problem for us but a sense of responsibility and civic sense is missing in us. Overlooking public drains and roads by throwing waste, people at the end of the day blame the government and municipal, he addressed. Road widening is one issue that we Naga lack which is evident in urban areas. The landowners should be willing to contribute a portion of their land in widening the road and have a vision for this concern for the convenience of the community, Yhome communicated. If we have the ‘self-centred’ mindset we will not progress. Along with the civic sense, we should also imbibe consumer civic sense and education, advocated the DC. He, however, lamented that we lack behind this basic daily judgment. He, therefore, called upon the SM Colony community to extend co-operation with various departments as their beginning for better neighbourhood. ‘We are still in the headhunting mindset and therefore it is time to progress,’ conveyed Yhome. The SM Colony is named after Late Pu Seikhohen Kuki, who sacrificed for the cause of the Naga nation. To give due recognition to his contributions for the Naga cause, the family and well wishers decided to name the present locality of the school named after him as ‘Seikhohen Memorial Colony’ which was accorded vide government order no.Gen-14/CR/2016-D/4234-41 dated March 21, 2017, informed Deilhing Doungel in a brief history report of SM Colony. The invocation was pronounced by retired Director of Information and Publicity S Changsan and the welcome address was delivered by Managing Director of City College of Arts and Commerce NK Nair. The vote of thanks was rendered by Anthony Humtsoe.
