Dr. Tinojongshi Chang along with the newly elected members
of DMC and EDTC and government nominees during the oath-taking ceremony in
Dimapur on Tuesday.
DIMAPUR — The
deputy commissioner (DC) of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, has called upon the
newly elected members as well as government nominees of urban local bodies
(ULB) to work hard in unity in addressing the needs of the people in order to
bring about holistic development in the society.
Dr. Chang made this call during administering oath of
affirmation ceremony for the newly appointed government nominee members of the
Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) on
Tuesday.
A DIPR report stated that the ceremony was conducted as per
Section 60 A(1) and (2) of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023, ensuring compliance
with the stipulated format.
Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony, Dr. Chang
congratulated all the newly elected members as well as the nominated members.
"It has taken over two decades for this moment to
materialise. With the collective effort of the Nagaland government and the
unwavering support of the people of Dimapur, we have finally achieved this milestone,"
he said while highlighting the historic significance of the event.
He also emphasised the importance of unity and hard work
among the members to address the needs of the people and bring about holistic
development in Dimapur district.
"I urge all members to remain united and committed to
their responsibilities. Only by working as one can we ensure progress and
development in every aspect under Dimapur jurisdiction," he added.
Report stated that the oath-taking ceremony marked a pivotal
moment for Dimapur and East Dimapur as the local bodies prepare to focus on
initiatives that aim to improve infrastructure, governance and overall quality
of life in the district.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of hope and
determination to usher in a new era of growth and prosperity for the region.
In another programme, the oath taking programme for the
government nominees to the Peren Town Council (PTC) and Jalukie Town Council
(JTC) was held at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office at
new Peren headquarters on Tuesday.
The government nominated members for PTC are Suipeu
Iheilung, Kanda Teilua and I Heigang Zeliang, while for JTC are Peusuibe Hau,
Enock and Gailialung.
The deputy commissioner of Peren, Hiazu Meru, administered
the oath to members of the both the councils. He also highlighted the
importance of municipal management and encouraged the members of their
responsibility and functions.
The DC highlighted about the sanitation collection
regulations and reminded that town sanitation involves the management of waste,
water and human excretion to ensure the health of the community and to protect
public health and prevent the spread of disease.
He also encouraged both the council members to come together
to solve the sanitation problems and to dedicate themselves in order to create
new things about the ecological sanitation.
It stated that officials of Zeliang Officers’ Association
Nagaland (ZOAN) led by its president, Dr. Hiabe, and both the council chairmen
of Peren and Jalukie attended the oath taking ceremony.
In the programme, the ADC of Peren, Keyirangding, and ZOAN
president, Dr. Hiabe, encouraged the members to dedicate themselves to uplift
the councils.
