The deputy commissioner of Chümoukedima declared April 9 a paid holiday for registered voters in Assam working in Nagaland.

DIMAPUR — The Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima, Polan John, has declared April 9 as a paid holiday to facilitate eligible voters to exercise their franchise in the general election to the Legislative Assembly of Assam.
The order has been issued in accordance with Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

According to a DIPR report, the paid holiday will be applicable to all persons who are registered voters in assembly constituencies of Assam and are employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking, or other establishments and shops within Nagaland, including those working on a shift basis, daily wage, or casual employment.
However, the notification clarified that the provision will not apply to electors whose absence from duty may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of the employment in which they are engaged.
All employers have been directed to ensure compliance with the order to enable voters to participate in the democratic process.
