DIMAPUR — The
Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) reiterated that the Ao community members
of Dimapur and its adjoining areas will not tolerate extortion and illegal
taxation by any organisations.
“With the festive season underway, it has come to our notice
that increased instances of intimidation and extortion of livelihood earners,
entrepreneurs, business establishments, and government employees have been
reported,” DAYO said in a press note.
It stated that DAYO firmly upholds the Ao Senso Telongjem
Dimapur (ASTD) December 2018 resolution, which opposes any form of threat and
intimidation to its bona fide members and will deal with it in accordance with
both the prevailing law of the land and customary law and practice.
‘DAYO has been an adherent advocate and upholds the
principle of "One Government, One Tax, which is a collective public
resolution and mandate of the people,’ it further said.
It called upon all members of the Ao community to remain
vigilant and united against such instances of extortion and illegal taxation,
which must be promptly reported through the DAYO helpline 8974851911 for prompt
and necessary action.
It appealed to all fellow Nagas and citizens of Dimapur to
work unitedly to emancipate from all forms of socio-economic injustice and to
ensure a just and peaceful environment during this season of love and peace.
