Dimapur, April 24 (EMN): Into the sixth day of the first round for Frolic Cup 2017, at Medziphema local ground, eight teams battled it out to make it to the quarters scheduled this week.
Despite overcast weather and drizzle during odd times, the first match of the day began at 7a.m. between Khanakhurü Students' Union vs Young Maniac, Khanakhurü, where both sides made a number of attempts before Khanakhurü Students' Union romped home the lone goal to record a 1-0 victory. The second match was fought between Molvom Youth and Students' Union and Khaibung FC but none could successfully find the net and the match went into penalties. Molvom Youth and Students' Union finally secured it 5-3 through tie-breaker.
The afternoon matches saw Khanglai FC, Khaibung, up against Black Hornets, Chumukedima at 2:00pm where Khanglai FC had the edge over Black Hornets to trounce the latter, 5-2. In the other match at 3:30pm, KYC 'B' and Legend Jr., Chumukedima Town, entertained the packed galleries with spectacular football but as fate would have it, KYC 'B' secured their berth for the quarters with a convincing 3-0.
The matches set for Tuesday, April 25 are Tsiepama Youth Organisation vs BKK TBCM at 7 a.m. and KYC 'A' vs KYC 'B' at 8 a.m. In the afternoon, MVYO will encounter Zoungam FC at 2 p.m. while the last match will present Winfield FC vs Young Generation, Old Piphema, at 3:30 p.m.
