Dimapur, Aug. 23 (EMN): Nagaland Dy. Chief Minister Y. Patton, who is leading a Nagaland BJP delegation to the flood ravaged state of Kerala, met with representatives from the ‘Society for Naga Students’ Welfare, Kerala’ and enquired about the wellbeing of the Naga community living in the state and also visited several relief camps and interacted with the displaced people and the patients.
The deputy chief minister accompanied by BJP legislators -- Minister Kashiho Sangtam and Advisor Longrineken Ao -- landed at Kerala on Aug. 22 and met with the Kerala BJP party leaders and ahd also called on the Kerala chief minister.
A press release issued by the media cell attached with the dy. cm informed that Patton, while interacting with the Naga community in Kerala, encouraged them to act as ambassadors of the Naga people and proactively involve in the relief and rescue operation and to demonstrate the magnanimity by exhibiting the good Samaritan spirit of the Nagas’ in times of need such as this. It is learned that there are over 400 Naga populations presently at Kerala, the release informed.
Updating on the activities of the state delegation, the release informed that the team visited several relief and medical camps to personally witness the actual condition on the ground. Patton interacted with the inmates at the camp and expressed sympathy and solidarity with all the population affected by the calamity.
Sharing the pain and agony of the people, Patton made a fervent appeal to one and all to come forward and help in the relief and rescue operation of the flood devastated stated. Patton assured the affected people that he will personally take up the concern with the central government for all necessary assistance in rebuilding and restructuring the State.
The deputy chief minister also extended financial aid for immediate medical and other relief materials at all the places the state team visited viz. Aranmula at Pathanamthitta, Kozhencheri Church, Thiruvalla Model Girls High School, Eramallikkara at Allapuzha, Seva Bharatiya at Chengannur, Lohia Memorial High School at Venmony, Mar Thoma High School at Venmony among other places.
Pattong also addressed the media persons at the Press Club, Pathanamthitta where he shared the sympathy and solidarity of the people of Nagaland to the Keralite people and offers condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones in the catastrophe.
Nonetheless, he also praised the resilient spirit of the Malayalee people for braving the unimaginable nature’s fury of recent memories.
While expressing gratitude to the central government for declaring Kerala floods as a “calamity of severe nature”, Patton made fervent appeals to the centre for all possible assistance to the ntate.
“Along with the entire Nation, Patton assure that the people of Nagaland stands with the people of Kerala during this trying times, and to extends all possible co-operation to help recover from this disastrous natural calamity,” the release from the media cell stated.
