Dimapur, July 26: The Dimapur Police opened an assistance centre at NRL petrol pump, Darogapathar on July 26 in the presence of village council chairman Nungtok Jamir, its members and residents of Darogapathar and other neighbouring areas.
Limasunep Jamir, Commisioner of Police, Dimapur thanked the chairman and the members of the village council for being forthcoming and providing the building “free of cost” for three years before a permanent office is set up.
“This is the type of cooperation the police department expects from the citizens,” said Jamir.
Jamir reminded the gathering that it was not an outpost but a booth which is “leaving a footprint” and it’s just a matter of time before it becomes an outpost or police station.
“The police system is not the same as 30 years ago; in this day and age, police officers are service-oriented,” said Jamir, adding that with public cooperation, law and order can be maintained.
The police officer also pointed out the unity of the people in the colony where the “neighbourhood policing” is good and strong. “The council and youth is strong and they are setting an example, but before taking law into your own hands, please inform and access the assistance centre,” reminded Jamir.
The Darogapathar village council chairman informed during the inaugural function that the village has 775 households with residents from different communities including from other north-eastern states; and the assistance centre will benefit everyone.
Jamir asserted that the council members would be available 24 hours for assistance in case of emergencies as the village is located in the middle of the highway.
